Nutritional interventions for patients with brain injuries and movement limitations
Kadečková, Klára ; Sládková, Petra (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Patients with acquired brain damage, who are attending rehabilitation day-care center on the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the General Hospital and the First Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, are often limited by fatigue and lack of energy. Patients are attending day hospital mainly with brain damage acquired after stroke and less often also after brain trauma. Secondary prevention of atherosclerosis development or progression and prevention of stroke relapse is very important with these patients. Nutritional intervention plays significant role in prevention and treatment of many risk factors of an atherosclerotic artery damage. Common consequence of brain damage is development of secondary sarcopenia. Patient in day hospital must bring their own food. Individualized program as a result from examination by the multidisciplinary team doesn't include nutritional assessment. Study with patients with acquired brain damage was carried out on Department of Rehabilitation. Study used bioelectrical impedance analysis provided by InBody 370 S. Body composition of patients was measured. This data and anthropometric measurements were evaluated for presence of metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Muscle mass percentage was evaluated as well. Study found out that most...
Organization of the care and nursing process at the stroke center
ŠESTAUBEROVÁ, Anna
This bachelor thesis deals with the organization of care and the nursing process at the stroke centre. The bachelor thesis is divided into a theoretical and research part. The theoretical part deals mainly with stroke, patient care at the stroke centre and associations after stroke. The main goal of the theoretical part was to describe a stroke, its treatment and nursing care by a nurse in a patient with stroke. The research part of the bachelor thesis is processed using qualitative research, for which two goals were set and one research question for each goal. The first goal of the research survey mapped the organization of care at the stroke centre. The first research question is related to this goal and examined the course of the organization of care in the stroke centre. The second set goal of the research survey was to determine the course of the nursing process at the stroke centre. To achieve the second goal, a second research question was set asking about the way the nursing process takes place at the stroke centre. Data collection was performed using semi-structured interviews with nurses working at the stroke centre. The research group consisted of six nurses. The interviews were recorded and then literally transcribed. The obtained data were processed using the coding method, the "pencil and paper" technique. The results were then categorized and evaluated. The research showed that we qualify care at the stroke centre as intensive, focusing on patients after stroke. With regard to ischemic stroke, the patient is hospitalized at a stroke centre with ongoing thrombolysis, which has been applied by the nurse at the emergency department after CT scan. In the case of hemorrhagic stroke, the patient is treated conservatively at the stroke centre. At the same time, we learned how the nursing process takes place in a patient after stroke who is hospitalized at a stroke centre. The results of the survey are used to create a basis for a seminar for nurses working at the stroke centre, which will serve to deepen their knowledge.
Possibilities of Occupational Therapy Intervention in Patients after Acquired Brain Injury with Apraxia
Hacklová, Lucie ; Rejtarová, Anna (advisor) ; Rybářová, Kateřina (referee)
BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Author: Lucie Hacklová Supervisor: Mgr. Bc. Anna Rejtarová Title: Possibilities of Occupational Therapy Intervention in Patients after Acquired Brain Injury with Apraxia Abstract of the Thesis: The bachelor's thesis is devoted to the topic of apraxia and the possibilities of interventions for patients with apraxia after acquired brain damage. Apraxia is a disorder of motor planning, and this condition affects the performance of activities that the patient was able to manage before the acquired brain damage. This often limits his self-sufficiency and quality of life. With the help of special interventions, it is possible to help to recover faster and return to normal life. The thesis contains theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on acquired brain damage, in this case cerebrovascular accidents, the neurological aspect of apraxia and then to a greater extent on the types of apraxia, evaluations and the possibilities of intervention. In the practical part, 3 goals are set. The main goal is to create a manual for working with patients with apraxia based on selected interventions mentioned in the theoretical part. Gesture training and strategy training appear to be the most used and effective interventions through the studies, which is why exactly these are...

Utilizing of electrical stimulation for decreasing of spasticity in stroke patient
Ustinova, Darya ; Demeková, Júlia (advisor) ; Kövári, Martina (referee)
1 Abstract Electrical stimulation by coupled impulses according to Hufschmidt was created with the primary goal of reducing spasticity. However, there are currently few studies that confirm or refute the effect of this type of electrical stimulation in reducing spasticity. The aim of this diploma thesis was to determine the effect of electrostimulation according to Hufschmidt on the reduction of biceps brachii spasticity in patients after stroke. In addition, the effect of electrical stimulation on increasing the active range of movement of the antagonist of the examined muscle and on the active function of the spastic limb was investigated. For these purposes, a non-randomized controlled pilot study was created, which involved a total of 16 probands, 8 - in the therapeutic group, 8 - in the control group. Five-step clinical assessment in spastic paresis according to Gracies were used for the examination. In the therapeutic group, electrostimulation took place 3 times a week, a total of 8 times. The intragroup difference was evaluated using the Friedman and Wilcoxon paired tests, the intergroup difference was subsequently evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test. The significance level p = 0.05 applies to all tests. The measured values show that Hufschmidt's electrical stimulation has a positive effect on...

Title: The usage of virtual reality in therapy of patients with neglect syndrome with consideration of a cybersickness risk. Objective: To find out if stroke patients with neglect syndrome tend to have higher risk of gaining cybersickness after using virtual reality compared to stroke patients without neglect syndrome and healthy population. Also, to find out if the severity of neglect syndrome has correlation with the severity of gained cybersickness. Afterwards to evaluate the trend of making games in virtual reality for treating neglect syndrome with consideration of a cybersickness risk. Methods: The experiment participants played game in virtual reality developed for treating neglect syndrome for ten minutes. During the game participants were seated and were playing using head movements. A HTC VIVE console was used to deliver the virtual reality game. Participants were divided into 3 groups: the group Zdraví (n = 12) without neurological impairment, the group CMP (n = 6) for stroke patients without neglect syndrome and the group Neglect (n = 10) for stroke patients with neglect syndrome (KF-NAP ≥ 1). Each proband had to fill Sickness Simulator Questionnaire which was used to detect cybersickness before and after playing the game in virtual reality. Collecting and sorting of the data was done...
